About Casterton

Casterton is situated on the Glenelg River amongst rolling hills and river red gums. It is the birthplace of the Kelpie, and is located in the heart of the Western District of Victoria. Casterton is surrounded by large areas of agroforestry and native vegetation. This provides habitat for many native animals and birds including the endangered Red Tailed Black Cockatoo.

Australian Kelpie Muster

The Australian Kelpie Muster is a premier event held every Queen's Birthday long weekend. A fun family day on Saturday with dog trials and auction on Sunday. This weekend provides the best of Kelpie action.

Casterton's May race carnival is a popular event on the horse racing calendar. The course is located in a natural amphitheatre surrounded with rolling hills and local rivers.

Casterton Agricultural Show

Held every November, the Casterton Show is a major event on the calendar with dogs, cattle, sheep, equestrian, speed shear competition, indoor events such as baking, photography and art and sideshows, music and entertainment for everyone.
